In present day, chiller play
an important role in large air-conditioning
units. Most of customer usage and
maintenance are based on the user
manual; therefore, they believed
that the efficiency of chiller will
declined as its operating time is
longer. They are accepted an increasing
of electrical cost and ready to
change the old chiller when the
time comes.
Experimentally,
however, the efficiency of heat
transfer within the used chiller’s
tube is very low. This is because
the compressor oil is attached
on the tube wall, which caused
an extra load for chiller to operate.
With this load, chiller will experienced
longer operating time with actual
cooling capacity. Moreover, it
has been discovered that old chiller
will consume extra energy up to
30%.

Therefore, some researchers try
to find the way to prevent and
correct these problems for more
than 10 years. Finally, they came
up with substance called Polarized
Refrigerant Oil Additives, PROA.
PROA will maintain the rate of
heat transfer within the tube
as high as the brand new chiller
does, which will save energy consumption
in long-term condition.
PROA gives sufficient result
in terms of economic in a long
run. Also it is very convenient
to apply to the system by simply
added PROA with refrigerant and
start operating chiller continuously.
The expected saving can be observed
within 3 weeks of operation. Practically,
some observation has been made
to the chiller of Amari Watergate
Hotel. As PROA was added to the
550-tons chiller on February then
measure and calculate all the
data collected on March, it can
concluded that PROA can save more
than 130,000 Baht or 17% of overall
expenses within the range of 20
days.
Moreover, PROA
doesn’t contribute any deteriorate
to other device in the chiller.
Apart from reducing energy consumption
and electrical costs, PROA also
provides other benefits as the
following:

•
Reduce the electrical current
needed to start the system

•
Reduce the maintenance cost

•
Extend the lifetime of motor and
compressor

•
Reduce noise, friction and vibration
of the system
